| In the fall of 1941 two Bible college students believed the Lord was leading them to conduct a week of meetings in a mill community of Greensboro. Arrangements were made with a Mr. Woodard to use an old chicken house on Franklin Boulevard. The building was aired out, spruced up, and used for the meeting. As a result of the week of meetings, a church was established. Mr. Woodard donated the chicken house and the adjacent lots were donated by Mr. Woodard and some were purchased by the church. The congregation voted to name the church Woodard Memorial Baptist Church. In 1993, the church began to think about moving to a larger property in a new neighborhood. The present 14 acre parcel was settled upon after much searching and prayer, and the arduous process of getting through all the hoops of bureaucracy began. The church was able to rather quickly sell the old facilities and began meeting in a nice storefront building on Rehobeth Church Road. In late Fall of 1997 all permits, plans, and problems preventing construction were finally cared for. As excitement mounted over getting the building underway, nature intervened with the onset of unheard of rains from El Nino. Site preparation began as the rains tapered in early spring of 1998. The church family rallied together around the project and spent every evening after work and Saturdays erecting the steel and framing the building. In just a few weeks the building was closed in and under roof by the diligent work of the congregation. That summer was spent waiting for various trades to finish their work. In the fall of 1998, we were in our new church home! As we look back over our history of 60 years, it is obvious God's hand has guided, directed, and cared for us. Through many trials, difficulties, and blessings, He has been faithful to us. As we look towards the future, we may confidently trust that He will continue to lead us as we faithfully follow Him.
